About

“Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers.”                                                                   ~ Isaac Asimov

I am a 47 year old woman who has been on an MS guided journey since February 2011.  I woke up one morning recently, bursting with ideas only to be squelched by needing to go to work.  A quote that I saw only days before came to mind; “Don’t ask what the world needs, ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive.” -Howard Thurman?  I am not ready to quit my day job, but writing has made me come alive.  I want to share my experience in hopes of perhaps giving others diagnosed with MS new perspective and empowerment.

  1. please share your experiences with Dr. Wahl’s diet…i’m thinking of doing it myself!

  2. I definitely will soon Stacey. I just started to blog this week. Google TEDxIowaCity – Dr. Terry Wahls – Minding Your Mitochondria and watch her lecture. More later, but I will say it was life changing.

    • I found this video very interesting as well. I am curious where it takes you. I had adapted my diet somewhat to Dr. Wahls. I have some issues with eating meat from an political and emotional standpoint so I am very keen to know what is the outcome for others.

Since we have both just started our blogging journey and sharing our prespective, I want to wish you will with your blog-alog:) Jen

      • Thanks so much. I think there must be a way to be vegetarian and still adapt some of Dr. Wahl’s diet. I know personally organ meats are not something I can easily accept, but maybe there are supplements that can be taken and just the grain free part is supposedly a huge help in fighting inflammatory conditions. Best wishes to you!

    • HI, How was Dr. Wahl’s diet life changing? I’ve watched the video many times in the past contemplating whether or not I should try it. I’m not sure what to do…I just know I want to feel better than I do now and I need to improve my health to care for my special needs son. Thanks, Cyndi

      • Thanks for stopping by Cyndi. I have to say I am still following the diet, yet not as religiously as when I began a year and a half ago. It will get you healthier, and slimmer, and both of those things are good for managing MS. I have mostly been symptom free, though before beginning the diet wasn’t particularly symptomatic either. Lately I’ve been eating sugar, and adding gluten free crackers and desserts on occasion and I’ve experienced a slight exacerbation over the last month. It’s very hard to say whether it was stress related or from inflammation due to the foods I began to eat, but I am going to make an effort to manage both a little better and see if it helps. Good luck!

  5. I’m excited to be following you! It’s nice to have other people going through the same thing willing to share their experiences. I look forward to reading more from you. Thanks for your comment on my blog. 🙂

  6. Thank you for sharing. You are an eloquent, inspiring writer (blogger :)) I will look forward to reading more.

  7. Thank you for stopping by, I truly appreciate it.

  8. I love this, n I’m gonna borrow that quote!
    (S’cool tho – I’ll credit you for it :~)

  9. Thanks for following my blog 🙂
I love your idea of an ‘MS guided journey’. It can bring so many gifts, can’t it :s
    * How do you find working at the PC? does it tire you out? Like you really get into working on something – sparking with energy for it – then suddenly have to stop and fall over.

    • I generally write on my iPad while lying on the couch with Pandora radio playing through my earbuds! I tend towards the Balmorhea channel. It’s lovely. The problem is finding the time to myself to do it.

  10. I did try that, but my arms / neck ached too much. Good for quick bits tho’. And yes, blogging does require concentration, doesn’t it.

  11. * How do you get your picture frame? It looks really good on my blog.

  12. I would like to know more about Balmorhea…what is that?

  13. I will look into the diet, hope your trip goes well, prayers and huge squishy hugs your way! Thank you for shining a light in my path! 🙂 olivia

  14. I was diagnosed Feb 2011 too, I’ll follow your blog with interest, thanks for stopping by mine.

  15. Right here is the perfect website for anybody
who wants to find out about this topic. You understand a whole lot its almost tough to argue with you (not that
I really would want to…HaHa). You definitely put a fresh spin on a topic
which has been discussed for decades. Excellent stuff, just great!

  16. Where have you gone?? Are you ok? I have only found your blog today and read through the entries with fascination as to how your health is doing after using more ‘alternative’ therapies. I do not (yet) suffer with any serious health issue (I do suffer with depression. I’m four/five stone overweight and can’t run to the end of the street!) but my diet is so poor, I fear I will soon! I am 35 and looking to turn my health around before it gets totally out of hand. I feel ashamed of myself.
Last year I really got interested in crafting and it empowered me enormously to realise that I can often make things that cost a fortune to buy commercially. I am planning to make a tower garden to hydroponically grow fresh food. They cost around £500.00 to buy! I can make one for £100-150. I would never have thought this possible if I hadn’t started to craft. It’s wonderful how one positive step leads to another! Meanwhile I will shell out for as much fresh food as possible. I have just started using coconut oil (the affects have been amazing) and trying to practise chi gong, although I’m not sure I’ve found my chi yet! I DEFINITELY have a blockage – if not several!!
Anyway, blogs like yours are a great source of inspiration and whilst I wouldn’t want to pressure anyone to blog if it’s no longer their ‘thing’, it would be wonderful to know how you are doing please? I SO hope it is well! I’m hoping that you haven’t blogged because you spend all day running up and down the beach and through corn fields with the wind in your hair and the sun on your face! Does that remind you of any dodgy medical adverts??
It’s very strange if I happen to see any of those (not that I ever see any adverts anyway because I haven’t watched tv in 5 years) medical adverts since we just don’t have them in the UK. In fact it’s chilling to watch them. It’s a real reminder of what a HUGE business death and sickness has become. Disgraceful!
I’m sure I speak for many when I say it would be wonderful to hear an update of your progress.
    Take care 🙂

  17. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog, just ran across it accidentally today. I’m newly diagnosed as of Oct 2013 and still trying to deal with all this. I could relate to a lot of what you’ve said and found it inspirational. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas. I hope you are doing well.
